FCO Strategy Chief meets students

On Wednesday 5th September 2012, a lively discussion took place between the new-intake students of the 24th Year Class, and Mr Alexander Ellis, the Director responsible for Strategy at the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In the context of this final item on the agenda of his two-day visit to Poland, Mr Ellis (also a former British Ambassador to Portugal and adviser to Jose Manuel Barroso at the European Commission) engaged the students in a wide-ranging and frank session that actively sought the views of young Poles on the changes that had taken place in their own country, on the UK and Poland’s attitudes towards it, and on the European Union in general and its Single Currency in particular. Mr Ellis was accompanied on the visit – and in the active running of the fact-finding discussion – by Jessica Glover (Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Warsaw and Charge d’Affaires), Timothy Duckett (Second Secretary) and Ameer Kotecha, a Policy Unit intern within the framework of the FCO’s “Future Talent” Scheme.
